A Thousand Tongues. One Mission.
"I wish I had a thousand tongues to proclaim the infinite love of God."
-St. Gaspar del Bufalo
Our founderMore than 200 years ago, our founder, St. Gaspar del Bufalo, dreamed of sharing the infinite love of God revealed through the Precious Blood of Christ with the world. That vision became the foundation of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, a worldwide Community of priests, brothers and lay associates who continue sharing Christ’s love through reconciliation, service and mission.
The Heart Behind the Mission
For St. Gaspar del Bufalo, the Precious Blood of Christ became a sign of God's love poured out for all people and the hope of reconciliation. This love became the foundation of his life and the mission he felt called to share with the world.
God placed people along Gaspar's journey who helped him recognize His plan. Fr. Francesco Albertini saw Gaspar's deep faith, his passion for Christ and his gift for reaching hearts. Through Albertini's encouragement, Gaspar discovered his call to the priesthood and began a path of service that would shape the Church for generations.
As a young priest in Rome, Gaspar dedicated himself to preaching the Gospel, caring for those in need and helping others rediscover God's mercy and love. He believed the Precious Blood of Christ revealed a love powerful enough to heal hearts, mend what was broken and renew the Church. Even when his ministry led to opposition and imprisonment, Gaspar remained faithful to the mission God had placed before him.
On August 15, 1815, Gaspar's response to God's call became the beginning of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, a Community dedicated to proclaiming Christ's love and bringing reconciliation to the world.
What began with a small group of Missionaries has grown into a worldwide Community of priests, brothers and lay associates who continue carrying forward the mission St. Gaspar began.
