CCSJ celebrates a Year of Hope by pledging 5,000 hours of service
Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) is excited to join the universal Church in celebrating the 2025 Jubilee Year. Pope Francis has proclaimed 2025 “The Year of Hope,” an opportunity to recommit ourselves to spreading the message of hope and helping our neighbors. In celebration of this Jubilee year, CCSJ students, faculty, and staff have come together to pledge 5,000 hours of service to the community this year. The college is no stranger to volunteerism and looks forward to documenting the many ways the individuals of our institution support and uplift volunteer efforts in the community.
President Dr. Amy McCormack had this to say about the 2025 Year of Hope Service Initiative: “‘Hope’ and ‘service’ are two words that have significant meaning on our campus. We have great hope for our students as we guide and support them along life’s journey, and our students provide valuable service to our community. Our strategic planning for CCSJ is all about serving and strengthening our communities. That starts with great hope for the future and the difference we can make for one another and our community.”
Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) held a kick-off event on Wednesday, Feb. 5, where the campus community joined together to learn more about the 2025 Jubilee Year, commit to the service pledge, and celebrate the spreading of hope on and off campus.
Fr. Tim McFarland, C.PP.S., offered a blessing during the kick-off event, and had this to say about the theme of hope this year: “In many ways, hope is what we are about here [at CCSJ]. Through education, students have hope for a better future for themselves and their families. Faculty and staff have hope in our students and in each other to reach our goals and full potential. That [hope] is what we come together to celebrate. One of the projects we have for this year is a goal to do what we do best; to be of service to our neighbors and community. In times like these, we could all use a little bit of hope.”
A large white ribbon will be on display at the college and will fill with crimson as the CCSJ community continues to move toward their shared goal of 5,000 service hours in 2025. The CCSJ community looks forward to continuing their mission, through service to the community while celebrating this special year.
