Precious Blood Renewal Center update September 2025
If August at Precious Blood Renewal Center in Liberty, Missouri, had a theme, it would have been “Back to School — Faculty Edition,” as we hosted several school faculties for retreats to begin their academic years.
In early August, the resident faculty of Central Seminary, an ecumenical graduate school of theology affiliated with the American Baptist Churches-USA, in Overland Park, Kansas, took over the Renewal Center’s guest house, chapel, and large meeting room for a three-day, two-night retreat to prepare for the new academic year.
Later in the month, the Eastgate Christian Church and Central Seminary, affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), from Independence, Missouri, had a one-day retreat for staff at the Renewal Center.
Local Catholic Schools — Our Lady of Hope, Holy Cross, and St. James (of Liberty) — used the Renewal Center for faculty retreats led by Fr. Timothy Armbruster. The diocesan school office theme for the year is “Let Your Light Shine,” so Fr. Timothy had the school faculties construct lighthouses from Pringles cans. “Light from a lighthouse is a symbol,” he explained. “Making the lighthouse helped the teachers understand how their light can guide and protect their students.” He also said that the crafting project is an idea the teachers can take back to their classrooms.
As you are reading this, two programs are getting underway at the Renewal Center. Check the website to see if slots are still available for:
Book Study for Couples: The 5 Love Languages — Sept. 8 to Oct. 6, Mondays — 6:30-8 p.m. central time, in person and by Zoom. Discover simple and effective ways to strengthen your relationships to experience greater joy and satisfaction. Revolutionize how you communicate and experience love. Direct of Hospitality Lucia Ferrara and her husband, Michael, are leading this book study.
Teach Us to Pray: Introduction to Prayer Styles — First Thursday of each month — 6:30 to 8 p.m. central time, in person and by Zoom. Each month for a year, practitioners of a variety of prayer styles, mostly from the Christian tradition but also from other faith traditions, will demonstrate prayer in their particular style. Sept. 5 is Centering Prayer and Oct. 2 is Lectio Divina with Kathy Keary.
Registration has just opened for a program to mark the end of the Jubilee Year. Using scripture and the image of the bronze door on the north side of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Jubilee Door, Fr. Ron Will guides us through a series of lectio divina and visio divina meditations. The program is called “Opening the Holy Door” and will meet on four Mondays, Oct. 27 through Nov. 17 at 6:30 p.m. central time. This, too, is a hybrid program with in-person and Zoom options.
