Get to know U.S. Province formation candidate Stephen Leik
Stephen Leik is one of the newest members of the Precious Blood formation community, bringing with him deep local roots, a thoughtful discernment journey, and an easygoing presence that reflects both sincerity and joy.
Born and raised in Dayton, Ohio, Stephen grew up with strong ties to the Missionaries of the Precious Blood long before he ever considered joining the community. Both sides of his family were rooted at Precious Blood Parish, and those connections continue today: family members remain active there, and his maternal grandfather serves regularly at St. Joseph’s downtown. That early familiarity laid a quiet foundation that would later become central to Stephen’s vocational path.
Stephen attended Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School before beginning college at the University of Detroit Mercy, where he initially studied mechanical engineering. During his time there, however, he began discerning a call to the priesthood. That discernment led him to change his major to philosophy and eventually to spend several years working at FedEx while prayerfully exploring different religious communities. Conversations with Fr. Angelo Anthony proved especially formative, helping Stephen recognize how his personal history and faith life aligned with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood. In particular, Stephen was drawn to the community’s emphasis on listening for and faithfully following God’s will.
Currently in initial formation, Stephen is pursuing required theology coursework at DePaul University as he prepares for future studies at Catholic Theological Union. He describes formation life as both supportive and grounding, offering structure, community, and spiritual growth.
Outside of his studies, Stephen enjoys all kinds of games, including board and card games and video games, and might be found racing housemates in Mario Kart. At age 26, he brings a relatable, down-to-earth spirit to the formation house, reminding us that religious life is lived by real people, growing together in faith.
