C.PP.S. news from around the world

Italian Province

“San Gaspare TV,” a new streaming web TV channel promoted by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, launched Feb. 1.  The channel aims to spread the spirituality and mission of St. Gaspar del Bufalo through live content, prayer meetings, and events. Watch live at www.sangaspare.tv.

Tanzanian Province

The Tanzanian Province this year celebrates sixty years of C.PP.S. presence in Tanzania. The important anniversary was inaugurated on Jan. 24 at Bl. Isidor Bhakanja Boko Parish in the new Catholic diocese of Bagamoyo. On that occasion, three deacons became ordained priests. In Manyoni, where the Missionaries first established the C.PP.S. presence, four seminarians will be incorporated and ordained deacons on July 1 and 2. During the course of this anniversary year, the relics of our Bl. Giovanni Merlini will be visiting each place of our C.PP.S. presence in Tanzania.

During these sixty years of C.PP.S. presence in Tanzania, the dream of St. Gaspar has come to reality in many ways: the good news of salvation has reached many thousands of souls and the most precious Blood has purified many more through parish work, retreats, and social work of healing the sick, feeding the hungry, and liberating the broken-hearted.

Iberian Province

On Jan. 28, Storm Kristin hit Portugal, bringing heavy rain and 200 kph winds. The storm uprooted large trees, destroyed houses, and created flooding and landslides. More than 800,000 people were left without power. There were also fatalities.

The house of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood in Proença-a-Nova was hit with significant damage to the roof, agricultural infrastructure, and trees: a centuries-old cork oak simply fell, and several trees were uprooted or had their trunks broken in half.

Father Virgílio, who was in the eye of the storm, says, “We woke up at 4 a.m. to a deafening noise of wind and rain. Around 5 a.m., the wind and rain increased in intensity and began to tear off part of the roof of the house. Some tiles fell inside the house, opening space for the storm. Since, in addition to the priests, 18 people were living in the house, the concern was to keep them safe. Now we have to get to work and replace the entire roof.”

There was also damage to other ecclesial structures, especially churches and chapels.
